Why teams do this

Financially stable players perform better. That is the whole reason to do this.

01

Financial security

A playing career is a short income window. The money has to last decades past the last game, and that only happens if the player understands it while it is coming in.

02

Performance

A player who is not worried about money is a player who is all the way in the building. Money stress shows up in focus, in the locker room, and on the field.

03

Protection

Players are targets. Education is how they learn to spot a bad deal, vet the people around them, and find professionals they can trust.

Every organization has a player development calendar and a list of things players need to hear. Financial education is on the list every year, and it is the hardest one to deliver, because players have heard the cautionary tales and tuned them out.

What works is a teacher who has been in the building long enough to earn the room, who talks to players like professionals, and who gives them something to do with the next check.

Anyone can get good with money
Hillary Seiler, known as Coach Hill, financial education speaker for pro athletes
Meet Hillary

Hi, I'm Hillary Seiler. In the locker room, I'm Coach Hill.

The players gave me the name, and it stuck because that is the job. I do not lecture. I coach. In 2016 a player engagement director called and asked if I could teach his rookies how money works. I could, because I had spent years inside banking and mortgage lending watching people with brand new income make the same expensive mistakes. That first room turned into Financial Footwork, and Financial Footwork turned into ten seasons inside NFL and NBA organizations. My book, Train Your Money, is the playbook I teach from, built on what those locker rooms taught me.

Here's what I am, and what I'm not.

I am an educator and a coach. I am not a financial advisor. I do not sell products, I do not manage money, and I do not take a percentage of anything. That is why player engagement staff let me in the building, and why players tell me things they would never tell the person managing their money.

Customized every time

Built around your roster, not a standard program.

Before I walk into the facility I learn your organization. Then I build the sessions around it, so a rookie room and a ten-year veteran room get different sessions, and the plan fits the way your players actually get paid.

  • ✓ Roster experience
  • ✓ Your player development calendar
  • ✓ What staff is hearing
  • ✓ League and PA schedule
Every player
The Train Your Money Starter Playbook and the session worksheets.
Engagement staff
A one-page Event Recap with participation, the questions the room asked, and what to do next.
No individual data, ever
Money is private, and in a locker room that rule is the whole reason players will talk to me.

FAQ

Questions player engagement staff ask.

Meeting Planners page →

Is this financial advising?

No. Hillary is an educator and a coach. She does not sell financial products, does not manage money, and does not take a percentage of anything. There is no vendor conflict and nothing to disclose, which is why player engagement staff bring her into the building and players trust what she says.

What does an athlete financial education program include?

Keynotes, workshops and seminars built around your roster, covering everything from basic money skills to career transition. Every player gets the Train Your Money Starter Playbook and the session worksheets, and your engagement staff get a one-page Event Recap.

When do teams schedule programming?

Year-round. Most teams start with rookie orientation or a training camp session, run seminars in season, and save the deeper workshops for the offseason. Hillary builds the calendar around your team schedule.

Who typically brings Hillary in?

Player engagement and player development directors, front offices, league programs, players associations and agencies. Hillary has spent ten seasons inside NFL and NBA organizations.

Can the program be customized to our roster?

Yes, every time. Sessions reflect your roster's experience, the player development programming you already run, and what your staff is hearing from players.

Does Hillary work with front office and staff too?

Yes. Coaches, scouts and staff can book seminars or keynotes, and Hillary speaks at league meetings and player development conferences. Working with a college program? Start with the Universities and NIL page.
